LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville student-athletes will collect funds to aid Hurricane Katrina relief efforts at entrances to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium at the Cardinals' Sept. 17 home football opener against Oregon State.

The funds collected will be directed to the Conference USA Relief Fund to specifically aid Tulane and Southern Mississippi, a pair of C-USA member instititutions which were hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Once the schools' needs are met, any additional resources will be sent to the American Red Cross relief efforts.

"We spent many years in the same league with Tulane and Southern Mississippi and still consider them as members of our family," said Tom Jurich, U of L Vice President for Athletics. "So many of our fans visted New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast while we were competing against those schools and have been struck by the images we have seen of the devastation in those areas. I hope this can help two former league associates that have been particularly hit hard by this tragedy."

U of L student-athletes and other campus student groups will be located just inside the stadium entrances and will also roam the parking lots prior to the game to accept donations. Checks should be made payable to "C-USA Relief Fund." Donations may also be sent by mail to: C-USA Relief Fund, 5201 N. O'Connor Blvd., Suite 300, Irving, Texas 75039.
