LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field program will host the 2008 Cardinal Twilight on Saturday at Cardinal Park in the final weekend of competition prior to the NCAA regional events in two weeks.

The meet will begin at 10 a.m. ET, with the throwing events and will continue with the jumps at 11:45 a.m. The running events will conclude the meet schedule at 6 p.m. Admission is free for the meet, which will include athletes from Cincinnati, DePaul and Western Kentucky among others.

"The inaugural Cardinal Twilight is going to be a small, but high-quality meet," said Cards' head coach Ron Mann. "The throwing events should be deep and very good and we have a good group of entries across the board. For our squad, this will be the final tune-up before the NCAA championship season starts in two weeks with the regionals."

The Cards enter this weekend's meet with 25 total qualifiers for the NCAA Mideast Regional, just one short of the last year's school record total. The Cards also have one automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships (Michael Eaton) in the 10,000m and two provisional qualifiers, giving the Cards a school record total of qualifiers for the two season-ending NCAA championship events.

Most recently, the Cards won their first ever women's team title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 4 in Philadelphia, Pa., while the Louisville men finished third overall. The Cards won five event titles at the BIG EAST Championships, including four by the women's squad. Sophomore Jere' Summers led the way by earning Most Outstanding Women's Field Performer of the Meet honors with wins in the discus and shot put with meet record marks in each.

Also earning conference titles for the Cardinal women was senior ZeNai Savage in the hammer throw and sophomore Rachel Gehret in the high jump. On the men's side, junior Andre Black led the way with a win in the triple jump and a second-place finish in the long jump to clinch the Most Outstanding Men's Field Performer of the Meet award for the first time in his career.

Following this weekend's home meet, the Cards will have a week off from competition before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., on May 30-31 for the NCAA Mideast Regional. Louisville will conclude the 2008 outdoor season on June 11-14 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
