Ruberg Leads U of L at the C-USA Championships

CHICAGO, Ill. - Junior Ashley Ruberg led the way for the University of Louisville women's cross country team at the 2004 Conference USA Championships hosted by DePaul University on Saturday at the Palos Hills Forest Preserve in Chicago, Ill. Ruberg, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, covered the hilly, 6,000-meter course in a time of 24 minutes, 31 seconds to earn 60th in the field of 94 runners. This is the fifth time in 2004 that Ruberg has been the Cards' top finisher. Overall, the Cardinals finished 14th with 400 points, while Marquette scored 66 points to win its fifth straight C-USA title. TCU finished second with 93 points followed by UAB in third with 101 points and South Florida in fourth 125 points. Senior Corryn McCrae closed her cross country career with a time of 25:33 and 81st, while junior Lauren Baldwin earned 83rd with a time of 25:49. Freshman Jessie Faulkenberg was 87th with a time of 26:12, while sophomore Holly Geers closed out the scoring for the Cards with 89th and a time of 26:39. This is the final cross country meet of the season and the final C-USA event for the Cardinal women as U of L will enter the Big East Conference in 2005.
